RESUMEN
La obesidad es el factor de riesgo ambiental más importante de diabetes mellitus tipo 2
y puede encontrarse hasta en 90% de los pacientes. La cirugía bariátrica, también
conocida como cirugía metabólica, es cada vez más reconocida como una de las
intervenciones más eficaces contra la obesidad y comorbilidades, ayudando a los
pacientes a lograr la pérdida de peso sostenible y a mejorar su salud en general. Este
artículo revisa los diferentes tipos de cirugía bariátrica, así como su efecto en el control
glucémico y en la remisión de la diabetes mellitus 2.
