El Ureaplasma urealyticum en la enfermedad pulmonar crónica de neonatos pretérmino

RESUMEN
Varios estudios han documentado la transmisión vertical perinatal de Ureaplasma urealyticum en neonatos pretérmino, además se ha identificado en infantes nacidos muertos y recién nacidos con neumonía. Aunque aún no se aclara su mecanismo de patogenicidad hay cierto consenso de que esta bacteria tiene, de alguna manera, la capacidad de participar en la enfermedad pulmonar crónica de los recién nacidos. La prueba de PCR (reacción en cadena de la polimerasa) ha sido de gran utilidad en la detección temprana de este germen en secreciones respiratorias de neonatos. Otros estudios han valorado sus patrones de sensibilidad y resistencia a los antibióticos, facilitando la elección del antibiótico para el tratamiento de los neonatos con la enfermedad pulmonar.
