Introducción
En la actualidad se sabe que uno de los principales factores de riesgo de muerte en la falla cardíaca izquierda es la presencia de hipertensión pulmonar y la alteración en la función del ventrículo derecho. Se estima que aproximadamente el 60% de los pacientes con disfunción sistólica severa del ventrículo izquierdo y el 70% de los que presentan disfunción diastólica aislada sufren de hipertensión pulmonar, por lo que es posible que ésta sea la causa más frecuente de hipertensión pulmonar secundaria y falla ventricular derecha secundaria.
