Índice de triglicéridos/lipoproteína de alta densidad unida a colesterol (TG/HDL-C) como criterio de riesgo para síndrome metabólico (SMet) y baja sensibilidad a la insulina en sujetos aparentemente sanos

RESUMEN
Propósito: Evaluar si el índice TG/HDL-C puede ser considerado como un criterio de riesgo para SMet y baja SI en sujetos
aparentemente sanos.
Métodos: Los sujetos participantes fueron caracterizados clínica, antropométrica y bioquímicamente.
El índice TG/HDL-C se calculó dividiendo los valores de los TG entre los valores del HDL-C. El SMet se diagnosticó mediante
los criterios establecidos por el Tercer Reporte del Panel de Tratamiento para Adultos del Programa Nacional de Educación
en Colesterol (ATP-III NCEP) de los EE.UU. La SI se evaluó mediante el índice cuantitativo de evaluación de la SI (QUICKI,
Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check Index).
Resultados: En el estudio participaron 813 sujetos, de los cuales 564 eran mujeres y 249 eran hombres. Se encontró asociación entre el TG/HDL-C alto y la SI (razón de momios [RM]: 4.09; p ‹ 0.01) y
con el SMet (RM: 15.29; p ‹ 0.01). Se encontró correlación entre el índice TG/HDL-C y el QUICKI (rho: -0.4989; p ‹ 0.01) y con
el SMet (rho: 0.6581; p ‹ 0.01).
Conclusión: Los resultados muestran una buena correlación y asociación entre el índice TG/
HDL-C y el SMet y con la SI, sugiriendo a este índice como un criterio de riesgo para SMet y SI baja.
