Facoaspiración de catarata traumática en niños.

RESUMEN
Objetivo: Describir la presentación, resultados quirúrgicos y visuales en niños con catarata traumática operados con facoaspiración.
Materiales y método: Serie de casos no comparativa, con revisión de expedientes de pacientes menores de 18 años de edad con catarata traumática, sometidos a facoaspiración, con más de un mes de seguimiento postoperatorio.
Resultados: Se incluyeron 64 pacientes (9 meses a 17 años de edad). El mecanismo penetrante y la contusión se presentaron con mayor frecuencia, así como compromiso corneal y dehiscencia zonular. Se obtuvo pseudofaquia en 96.7% de los casos, 67.2% de los pacientes presentó agudeza visual e»20/80 y 18.7% presentó 20/200 o menos. En 34 pacientes (46.8%) se detectó opacidad de cápsula posterior y en 6 (9.4%), descentración del lente intraocular. El equivalente esférico postoperatorio fue +0.59 ± 1.55 D (rango, -4.00 a +3.75 D). Quince ojos (45.5%) tuvieron equivalente esférico ±1.00 D, y 29 (87.8%) estuvieron dentro de ±2.00 D.
Conclusión: El manejo de la catarata traumática en niños mediante facoaspiración con implante de lente intraocular permite alcanzar resultados satisfactorios. Debe observarse estrechamente la evolución para detectar complicaciones a corto, mediano y largo plazo, en consideración al antecedente de trauma.
