Ránula, alternativas de tratamiento quirúrgico versus no quirúrgico

RESUMEN
Se realizó una revisión de literatura que describe la ránula. La condición patológica llamada
“ránula” es un término proveniente del latín,
ran derivado de rana, y
ula de pequeña. Se define como
una extravasación de moco pseudoquística y se subdivide en simple, donde el aumento de volumen
ocurre solamente en el piso de boca y en “plunging” en la cual se da una extravasación hacia el
cuello, acumulándose saliva por debajo del músculo milohioideo. También se investigó acerca de su
etiología, que aunque es desconocida existen ciertos factores como la obstrucción del conducto excretor
de la glándula sublingual, el trauma, intervenciones quirúrgicas y las anomalías congénitas que han
sido implicados con su desarrollo. Posteriormente se describen distintos tipos de tratamientos para
la ránula, con enfoque quirúrgico y no quirúrgico. Entre ellos: OK 432, láser de dióxido de carbono,
criocirugía, toxina botulínica, fenestración y presión continua, marsupialización, incisión y drenaje,
remoción quirúrgica de la ránula y de la glándula sublingual implicada, entre otros. La remoción de la
glándula sublingual es considerado el método más confiable aunque implica riesgos como lesión del
nervio lingual y del conducto submandibular.
