Isquemia cerebral: algunas alteraciones secundarias y modelos animales

RESUMEN
El ataque isquémico cerebral es una de las principales causas de morbilidad y mortalidad en los países indus-trializados, y genera una enorme carga económica en las familias de los enfermos y en la sociedad. El propósito de esta comunicación es revisar los diferentes modelos animales utilizados para estudiar algunas de las lesiones encefálicas causadas por la isquemia cerebral, y hacer énfasis en la importancia que tiene toda esta información que contribuye a entender los mecanismos de lesión neuronal. Algunos de estos procesos involucrados en el daño neuronal aún no están bien entendidos en la actualidad son motivo de detalladas investigaciones con el objetivo de obtener conocimiento más específico. De esta manera se tendrá una mejor herramienta para prevenir y predecir el valor y el efecto terapéutico de las estrategias utilizadas para el tratamiento en el ser humano.
