La lesión de un nervio periférico puede ser transitoria o condicionar una discapacidad permanente. La incidencia de síntomas neurológicos por bloqueo de nervio periférico (BNP) varía dependiendo de la localización anatómica, puede ir desde 0.03% para los bloques supraclaviculares a 0.3% para los bloques femoral, hasta 3% para los bloqueos interescalénicos. Afortunadamente, la gran mayoría de estas neuropatías parece ser temporal en lugar de permanente y resolverse durante semanas o meses.
