Las extrasístoles ventriculares (EV) son muy frecuentes, tanto en población sana como enferma, con un amplio rango entre la benignidad y la malignidad [desencadenantes de arritmias ventriculares malignas, (AVM)]. Se han asociado a mayor mortalidad súbita y total.
Dentro de los muchos signos eléctricos premonitorios de AVM y de muerte súbita (MS), las EV son de los más discutidos, importantes y frecuentes. ¿Inocentes o perversas?, ¿se tratan o no? La importancia de la ectopia ventricular y su relación causal con la inducción de AVM se ha reconocido por muchos años, pero existe un amplio espectro en cuanto a síntomas y presencia o no de enfermedades cardíacas estructurales (que pueden causar, agravar o ser consecuencia de estos procesos).
