Introducción

El infarto del miocardio (IM) y la angina inestable son las principales causas postoperatorias de muerte de origen cardiovascular. La incidencia de infarto al miocardio perioperatorio a los 30 días es de 6%; en dos estudios recientes dos tercios de los pacientes no habían tenido síntomas isquémicos; cuando se presenta, los costos aumentan aproximadamente $100,000 USD; sin embargo, la mortalidad ha permanecido sin cambios de 2003 a 2010.
