Criopreservación de los injertos cartilaginosos

RESUMEN
En la actualidad el empleo de injertos en la cirugía ortopédica es tan común que se ha requerido el perfeccionamiento de los procedimientos de almacenaje para evitar el deterioro del tejido donado. Los autoinjertos han conseguido buenos resultados, sin embargo plantean problemas de disponibilidad; para remediar este inconveniente se han desarrollado técnicas como la criopreservación. La cual permite un tiempo de almacenamiento indefinido al detener el tiempo biológico del tejido. No obstante la criopreservación de los injertos cartilaginosos a diferencia de los otros injertos musculoesqueléticos plantea un problema y las técnicas actuales no representan métodos sencillos ni aseguran completamente la integridad del tejido, pues el proceso puede dañar las células, la matriz extracelular o ambas, lo cual se conoce como "daño crioinducido". En los protocolos modernos de criopreservación los agentes crioprotectores tienen una función importante, sin embargo, también es conocido el efecto citotóxico de los mismos. El desarrollo de un método de criopreservación efectivo es un requisito esencial en el éxito de los trasplantes condrales y osteocondrales , el cual se verá reflejado directamente en la capacidad de mantener una viabilidad celular aceptable.
