Con la publicación exitosa del primer mapa del genoma
humano el 26 de junio de 2000,1 quedó claro que había iniciado
una nueva era de descubrimientos y avances médicos.
Pareciera que la brecha entre la Radiología y la investigación
biomédica se acrecenta, sin embargo, ocurre lo contrario:
cada día más departamentos de Radiología en las instituciones
académicas de los Estados Unidos interactúan con
centros de investigación en medicina molecular y reciben
más apoyos del gobierno de ese país; como lo demuestra la
reciente creación del “Laboratorio de Imagen Molecular” del
Programa de Ciencias de la Imagen en los Institutos
Nacionales de Salud (NIH) de los Estados Unidos.
