Globally, childhood overweight and obesity are a major
public health concern. During the last decade,
the prevalence of overweight and obesity has increased
at an alarming rate in many low- and middle-income
countries. According to the World Health Organization
(WHO), more than 42 million children ‹5 years of age
were overweight by the year 2010.
