Actualización sobre vaginosis bacteriana

RESUMEN
La vaginosis bacteriana es una enfermedad polibacteriana que afecta a muchas mujeres en todo el mundo. La mayor prevalencia se observa en países subdesarrollados y en poblaciones con factores de riesgo como la promiscuidad. La enfermedad se produce cuando los lactobacilos, presentes en la microbiota normal de la vagina de mujeres sanas son reemplazados o superados en número por bacterias Gram negativas o Gram variables, anaerobias estrictas o facultativas presentes en pequeñas cantidades en la vagina sana y en el tracto gastrointestinal. La enfermedad puede cursar de forma asintomática o con leucorrea y ardor vulvar, en algunas pacientes puede ocasionar complicaciones obstétricas y ginecológicas importantes. El diagnóstico de la vaginosis bacteriana ha sido un tema controversial. Aunque existen algunos métodos diagnósticos clínicos y microbiológicos, todavía no se cuenta con un método potente para el diagnóstico eficaz de la vaginosis bacteriana.
