¿Qué es más importante en la salud periodontal, el ancho o el volumen de la encía adherida?

RESUMEN
La evaluación clínica de la encía adherida a menudo es sinónimo de dudas y confusiones debido a conflictos conceptuales. Estos interrogantes reflejan el hecho de que aún es considerado el ancho y no el volumen de este epitelio la dimensión más importante a evaluar, junto a la falta de correlación existente entre este hallazgo y la condición oral del paciente para un acertado diagnóstico, pronóstico y plan de tratamiento. El propósito de esta revisión es despejar dudas frente a la importancia de la encía adherida en el mantenimiento de la salud periodontal y el éxito en tratamientos periodontales, ortodónticos y de rehabilitación.
