RESUMEN

Este comunicado presenta generalidades relacionadas con el acto de soñar, enfatizando la versatilidad de su utilidad clínica, desde la óptica de los autores clásicos hasta la polémica neurofisiológica actual. En el contexto de la descripción de los símbolos sexuales, se describen sendas hipótesis acerca de la naturaleza y contenido de los sueños, asunto conflictivo en la vida individual-conyugal cuyo contenido psíquico –en ocasiones psicopatológico–, representa un tema insuficiente explorado en la actualidad. A juzgar por el silencio existente en la mayoría de los ámbitos de atención clínica y la nula representatividad en publicaciones nacionales, se infiere la poca importancia asignada por el personal de salud a este tipo de manifestaciones psíquicas que pueblan la mente inconsciente. Las conclusiones se plantean en el marco de la hipótesis neuropsicoanalítica que ilustra la presentación en una de las áreas destinadas al estudio del contenido mental de los pacientes y su representación en la vida conciente. Se enfatiza la necesidad de generar reportes clínicos y actualizar el conocimiento, que incluya las diferentes manifestaciones sintomáticas de los pacientes, en particular en el área de la psicosexualidad y la relación vincular, a efecto de comparar información que permita analizar mas ampliamente tales vivencias psíquicas y conductas con la pareja. La escasa disponibilidad del material en el país de autores nacionales es lamentable; quizá esté asociada con una insuficiente preparación clínica para realizar labores terapéuticas y de investigación, más convenientes para los diferentes problemas mentales de los pacientes.
