RESUMEN
Se calcula que anualmente ocurren entre 6 y 60 mil millones de casos de enfermedad diarreica aguda (EDA) en el mundo,
15% de las cuales son de origen bacteriano. La EDA se define como tres o más deposiciones líquidas en 24 horas. La
población más afectada es la infantil, con un niño muerto por diarrea o sus complicaciones cada 15 segundos en alguna parte
del planeta. Aquí se ofrece una visión actualizada de las causas más frecuentes de diarrea bacteriana en niños, haciendo
énfasis en aspectos patogénicos y terapéuticos.
