En plena era postvacunal, la tos ferina sigue siendo
un problema endémico mundial, no sólo en países
en vías de industrialización, sino también en los industrializados.
En la última década ha resurgido como un
problema de salud pública. En el mundo se registran
cada año de 20 a 50 millones de casos que cobran la vida
de 200,000-400,000 niños. El 90% de esas muertes son
de pacientes que viven en países en vías de desarrollo,
sobre todo lactantes menores de seis meses de edad.
