Eficacia clínica de una pasta desensibilizante de uso en consultorio a base de arginina al 8.0% y carbonato de calcio

RESUMEN
Objetivo: Evaluar la eficacia clínica de una pasta desensibilizante de uso en consultorio a base de arginina al 8.0% y carbonato de calcio, comparada con una pasta pulidora libre de flúor en la reducción instantánea de la hipersensibilidad dentinaria posterior a un pulido dental.
Material y métodos: Estudio clínico aleatorio doble ciego con grupos paralelos. Se incluyeron 40 sujetos de ambos sexos que respondieron con hipersensibilidad dentinaria a la prueba táctil (10-20 g Sonda Yeaple) y a la exposición de aire con un grado de 2 o 3 de acuerdo a la escala de Schiff. Los sujetos fueron aleatoriamente asignados a uno de los siguientes grupos: 1) Colgate
® Sensitive Pro- Alivio™, pasta desensibilizante sin flúor para uso en el consultorio a base de arginina al 8.0% y carbonato de calcio (grupo experimental) y 2) pasta profiláctica sin flúor (grupo control). Se realizó una evaluación inicial y una posterior inmediatamente a la aplicación del tratamiento.
Resultados: El grupo experimental mostró una reducción estadísticamente significativa de 101.4% en los registros de hipersensibilidad táctil (p ‹ 0.05) en comparación con el grupo control, que mostró sólo una reducción del 24.6% con respecto al registro inicial. En la prueba de aire, ambos grupos, experimental y control, mostraron una reducción estadísticamente significativa (65.8 y 36.9% respectivamente) (p ‹ 0.05); sin embargo, se observó un resultado superior en el grupo experimental. La diferencia entre ambos grupos fue estadísticamente significativa, mostrando mejores resultados el grupo experimental en comparación del grupo control en la reducción instantánea de la hipersensibilidad dentinaria (61.6 y 46.2%) (p ‹ 0.05).
Conclusión: Los resultados muestran que una sola aplicación de la pasta desensibilizante a base de arginina al 8.0% y carbonato de calcio brinda un alivio instantáneo de la hipersensibilidad dentinaria, superior cuando se compara con el uso de una pasta libre de flúor usada como control.
