FRAGMENTO
La hipertensión arterial ha sido reconocida desde hace mucho tiempo como un factor importante de riesgo cardiovascular.
En los adultos la definición de hipertensión arterial se ha basado en el valor de corte que marca un incremento en los eventos cardiovasculares y la muerte; se ha definido este valor de corte como ≥ 140 mm Hg para la presión sistólica y ≥ 90 mm Hg para la diastólica.
