Dentro de los métodos diagnósticos con que contamos en la actualidad para el diagnóstico de las cardiopatías, destacan los estudios con radionúclidos, los cuales paulatinamente han adquirido una importancia cada vez mayor como auxiliares diagnósticos en el caso de diversas entidades clínicas, particularmente en el campo de la cardiopatía isquémica. La base de estos estudios lo constituye la capacidad de detectar los rayos gamma emitidos por compuestos denominados radionúclidos.1 Con este fin se utilizan cámaras especiales capaces de detectar dicha energía. Existen dos tipos de cámaras detectoras de centelleo de rayos gamma: la cámara de Anger y la cámara multicristal.2 La primera se caracteriza por poseer un gran cristal de 50 cm de diámetro y un colimador que transforma la imagen de la distribución de la radiactividad en un patrón de centelleo en el cristal. Cuenta, además, con un sistema de tubos denominados “fotomultiplicadores”, los cuales al detectar un centelleo producen un par de señales eléctricas que precisan su posición.
