Microesferas de ácido poli(láctico-co-glicólico) para liberación controlada de biomoléculas: Conceptos, aplicaciones y perspectivas en Estomatología

RESUMEN
Las microesferas son sistemas de liberación controlada de medicamentos por lo que tienen un gran potencial de uso en diversos tratamientos en Estomatología. Las microesferas pueden elaborarse del co-polímero biodegradable ácido poli (láctico-coglicólico). En ellas pueden encapsularse y luego liberarse diferentes tipos de biomoléculas como antibióticos, analgésicos o proteínas. Por lo tanto, al mismo tiempo que las microesferas se degradan en los tejidos, ellas liberan por difusión las moléculas terapéuticas de manera controlada y durante un periodo de tiempo que puede ir desde horas hasta meses. Las microesferas pueden implantarse localmente sobre el sitio de una lesión, ya sea en el hueso mandibular o el órgano dentario, de tal forma que el medicamento es liberado directamente en el sitio de la lesión requiriendo muy bajas concentraciones terapéuticas. Por sus propiedades, las microesferas se han convertido en opciones atractivas para tratamientos de regeneración de tejidos, tratamientos antimicrobianos o bien tratamientos analgésicos. La presente revisión presenta los conceptos básicos sobre las microesferas, el polímero con el que se desarrollan así como sus aplicaciones y las perspectivas de uso en Estomatología.
