La caries secundaria y su adecuado diagnóstico

RESUMEN
El remplazo de restauraciones dentales en la práctica
diaria de la Odontología ocupa más de la mitad del
tiempo de los dentistas en el tratamiento de sus
pacientes. Este problema no ha demostrado ningún
tipo de mejoramiento o cambio desde la segunda parte
del siglo pasado.
Ya ha sido demostrado que la enfermedad de la caries
puede ser prevenida y controlada y que la mayoría de
los diagnósticos de caries secundaria no son tan
precisos como para recomendar el remplazo arbitrario
de las restauraciones.
Los nuevos paradigmas en la Odontología deben de
incluir un mejor diagnóstico y una más precisa
detección de caries en los dientes previamente
restaurados, para permitir su longevidad sin sufrir de
tratamientos extensos y mayor daño a la estructura de
los dientes y a la pulpa dental.
