Obesidad mórbida, síndrome metabólico y cirugía bariátrica: Revisión de la literatura

RESUMEN
Este artículo es una revisión de la fisiopatología, epidemiología, costos, morbilidades, comorbilidades, mortalidad y evidencias sobre dos temas que hoy por hoy son obligados para los cirujanos, médicos internistas, endocrinólogos y nutriólogos por ser un problema de salud pública. La obesidad mórbida y la presencia de síndrome metabólico pueden ser tratados con éxito a través de la cirugía bariátrica y existe evidencia de que esto impacta positivamente el costo en los servicios de salud. Se revisan también las ventajas, desventajas, indicaciones, contraindicaciones y complicaciones de la cirugía bariátrica y los resultados de las técnicas más utilizadas actualmente.
