La membrana plasmática: modelos, balsas y señalización

RESUMEN
La membrana plasmática es la estructura que delimita a la célula. Inicialmente
conceptualizada como una barrera inerte, divisoria del interior y exterior celular,
en la actualidad se le reconoce como un elemento dinámico y fundamental en el
mantenimiento de la integridad de la célula. Su plétora de componentes lipídicos
y proteicos propicia su participación en muy diversos e importantes procesos por
ejemplo: transporte y permeabilidad selectiva de sustancias e iones, excitabilidad,
movilidad, diferenciación, exocitosis, reconocimiento intercelular y transducción
de señales extracelulares. La presente revisión incluye un breve recuento de los
principales modelos que han conducido a la concepción actual de su estructura y de
sus propiedades funcionales y destaca las implicaciones del modelo vigente de balsas
de membrana en procesos de señalización intracelular.
