RESUMEN
La fuerza de mordida (FM) es un indicador del estado
funcional del sistema masticatorio. El propósito de este
trabajo es exponer información disponible y útil para la
práctica odontológica acerca de la FM. Se trata de
enfatizar que su evaluación directa depende de un gran
número de factores para lo que se muestran acuerdos y
controversias actuales contenidas en la literatura
científica. En esta segunda parte se expone la
asociación de la FM con la morfología ósea
craneofacial y muscular, el soporte periodontal, la
condición dental y oclusal, las disfunciones
temporomandibulares y algunos procedimientos
clínicos estomatológicos como las prótesis dentales,
los implantes dentarios, el tratamiento de ortodoncia,
el tratamiento periodontal y la férula oclusal.
