El estrés oxidativo en la insuficiencia renal asociada con hipertensión

RESUMEN
En los últimos años, junto con los factores que podríamos llamar “clásicos” en el diagnóstico de la enfermedad renal (dígase anemia, hipertensión y diabetes), se considera que el estrés oxidativo sería otro factor a tener en cuenta en la patogénesis de la insuficiencia renal crónica progresiva. De hecho, el estrés oxidativo se ha señalado como un importante mediador patológico en muchas y muy diversas situaciones clínicas como la carcinogénesis, la arterioesclerosis, las enfermedades cardiovasculares y el envejecimiento. Esto parece ser debido a múltiples factores que incluyen un aumento de la producción de sustancias del metabolismo oxidativo y/o a una disminución de las defensas antioxidantes. Se realiza una revisión actualizada sobre el tema para evidenciar los cambios que puede provocar el estrés oxidativo en la insuficiencia renal asociada con la hipertensión, mostrando particularmente las serias alteraciones que provocan los radicales libres en la funcionalidad del riñón.
