Impacto de la contaminación ambiental en el niño clínicamente sano

RESUMEN
La contaminación ambiental por exposición crónica a concentraciones superiores a las normas en el área metropolitana de la Cd. de México (CM) produce efectos graves a la salud de nuestra población pediátrica. 1-6 El impacto a la salud para 20 millones de individuos, incluyendo nueve millones de niños, que viven en la CM, así como para millones más en ciudades altamente contaminadas en nuestra provincia y en el mundo, es de enorme importancia. El propósito de esta revisión es informar los efectos a la salud por exposición a la contaminación en poblaciones pediátricas clínicamente sanas de la CM, y como los datos clínicos se correlacionan con la patología pediátrica y la patología en animales de experimentación expuestos a las mismas condiciones ambientales que nuestros pequeños.
