En nuestro país existe una falta total de Clínicas o Unidades de Dolor Agudo. Los intentos por iniciar con este tipo de proyectos están ubicados en el Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y la Nutrición, así como en la UMAE, Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI, pero no hay una difusión de las mismas y a pesar de que el dolor postoperatorio sigue siendo importante en el paciente quirúrgico, no ha habido un desarrollo paralelo a las clínicas de dolor crónico.
