Características de los enfermos que acuden a clínicas del dolor por primera vez

RESUMEN
Introducción: en México carecemos de estudios
epidemiológicos sobre la frecuencia y prevalencia
del dolor crónico. Series internacionales
han documentado que el dolor crónico afecta
la funcionalidad del individuo, incide en los servicios
de salud, es costoso y se presenta en
adultos mayores. El objetivo del estudio es identificar
las características de los individuos que
acuden por primera vez a una clínica del dolor.
Material y métodos: estudio descriptivo retrospectivo
de casuística institucional en pacientes
que acudieron por primera vez a una
clínica del dolor durante un periodo de cinco
años. Se recabó información demográfica y
acerca de la causalidad del dolor (oncológico
y no oncológico), intensidad y tipo (somático,
visceral, neuropático y mixto).
Resultados: se evaluaron 1453 expedientes. La
edad promedio de los pacientes fue de 59 ± 16
años. Se identificó que fue más frecuente el
sexo femenino, el dolor no oncológico y el tipo
neuropático; la intensidad del dolor promedio
fue de 6 ± 2; hubo una relación directamente
proporcional entre edad e intensidad del dolor.
Conclusiones: es necesario generar líneas de
investigación de corte epidemiológico que
fundamenten políticas sanitarias concernientes
al manejo integral de esta entidad.
