Nuevas genovariantes del serovar L2 de Chlamydia trachomatis causantes de proctitis

RESUMEN
Los serotipos L1, L2 y L3 de
Chlamydia trachomatis son la causa del linfogranuloma venéreo, que es un padecimiento crónico del sistema linfático y que es trasmitido sexualmente. Desde el año 2003 en Europa, Estados Unidos, Canadá y Australia ha habido brotes de infección por el serotipo L2 que origina proctitis, en lugar del linfogranuloma venéreo, en hombres que tienen sexo con hombres. Al parecer, estas cepas de L2 son una nueva genovariante (L2b) que da origen a padecimientos diferentes al linfogranuloma venéreo. Sin embargo, el análisis del genoma de L2b no difiere de manera importante del genoma de L2 (L2/434 UB) por lo que se ha considerado que la cepa L2b es una cepa clásica de L2. A pesar de lo anterior, nuevas genovariantes de L2 están apareciendo, mismas que no dan el linfogranuloma venéreo clásico o proctitis. Por esto es necesario analizar su genoma, para identificar los cambios genéticos ocurridos que hacen que estas cepas den lugar al linfogranuloma venéreo o proctitis.
