La investigación en la salud de la mujer en el siglo XXI

RESUMEN
Para el siglo XXI la expectativa de vida en la mujer ha aumentado por arriba de los 70 años, su estilo de vida se ha modificado, haciéndose más activa física, intelectual y sexualmente y la influencia de los factores sociales, culturales y medioambientales en su salud también es distinta. Por lo tanto, las enfermedades que aparecen con mayor frecuencia y las que provocan mayor mortalidad también han cambiado. Entre los aspectos que requieren de énfasis en la investigación en salud femenina en este siglo están: las conductas de riesgo relacionadas con actividad sexual, adicciones, violencia y modificación del entorno familiar; estrategias para favorecer los comportamientos saludables en cada etapa de la vida, como son hábitos alimenticios, actividad física e higiene general; prevención de enfermedades crónicas; salud reproductiva, incluyendo anticoncepción, salud durante el embarazo y la prevención, diagnóstico y tratamiento de enfermedades de transmisión sexual; influencia de factores genéticos, infecciosos, moleculares, hormonales y ambientales en las enfermedades; salud mental y enfermedades neurodegenerativas; la salud de la mujer climatérica. En la actualidad se hace un énfasis especial en la prevención del daño para mantener una vida saludable y en el desarrollo de indicadores moleculares con valor predictivo para la aparición y desarrollo de enfermedades cardiovasculares, mentales y crónico-degenerativas. Finalmente, la investigación social en medicina deberá analizar que tipo de intervenciones médicas, conductuales y sociales funcionan, con quién y por qué, para prevenir y tratar las enfermedades, así como para inducir a las mujeres a hacerse responsables de su salud.
