Fragilidad y enfermedades crónicas en los adultos mayores

RESUMEN

El envejecimiento patológico se acompaña de fragilidad y enfermedades crónicas que conducen a discapacidad y menoscabo de la independencia funcional de los adultos mayores con resultados adversos para su salud. Ambos procesos pueden cursar independientes, paralelos o combinar sus efectos lo que tiene implicaciones en la patogenia, curso y pronóstico. El artículo analiza estas relaciones y expone la estrategia del sistema de salud cubano para enfrentar estas dos situaciones.
