Trombocitopenia: más importante que encontrarla es saber porqué se presenta

RESUMEN
La trombocitopenia, que representa el hallazgo más frecuente de las enfermedades hemorrágicas adquiridas, similar a la anemia y a la hipertensión, no es una enfermedad sino un signo que se expresa tanto en la clínica como en el laboratorio. El médico debe definir la enfermedad que expresa el signo y a través de estudios complementarios de acuerdo con la clínica, ofrecer un tratamiento adecuado y oportuno. Se definen cuatro grupos de trombocitopenia a saber: 1) por reducción en la producción de plaquetas, 2) por acortamiento de la vida media de las plaquetas, 3) por secuestración de las plaquetas, y 4) por hemodilución. Se hace un análisis de la clínica de las principales enfermedades con trombocitopenia.
