Delirium y disfunción cognitiva postoperatorios

RESUMEN
El delirium y la disfunción cognitiva postoperatoria (DCPO) son complicaciones frecuentes asociadas a cirugía cardíaca y no cardíaca en especial en enfermos de la tercera edad. La incidencia estimada oscila entre el 25 a 80%, lo que depende de las definiciones empleadas, tipo de cirugía y el tiempo de su evaluación en el postoperatorio. Parece existir correlación entre estas complicaciones y una declinación en la calidad de vida y mayor mortalidad. El objetivo de este trabajo es revisar conceptos actuales relacionados a la incidencia, factores de riesgo, definiciones, fisiopatología, diagnóstico, tratamiento y secuelas a largo plazo de estas dos entidades.
