Introducción
A casi más de medio siglo de iniciada la actividad de la anestesiología a partir de los trabajos de Wells y Morton en 1946, aún no existe consenso de qué tipo de anestesia puede ser más seguro en el paciente senil. Se dice que los anestésicos regionales al parecer disminuyen de forma importante la respuesta endocrina metabólica y catabólica ante el estrés quirúrgico.
