Control estricto de la glucosa en el perioperatorio y la memoria metabólica

RESUMEN
Introducción
En el año 2001 y 2006 Van den Berghe et al publicaron dos estudios que reportaron beneficios en la mortalidad y en las complicaciones postoperatorias cuando se usaba protocolos con control estricto de la glucosa (CEG). Puesto que pocas intervenciones reducen la mortalidad en pacientes críticos adultos, los resultados se recibieron con gran entusiasmo y desde entonces la Surviving Sepsis Campaign, recomienda un CEG en todos los pacientes con sepsis. Estas recomendaciones se han mantenido hasta ahora avaladas por numerosas Asociaciones y Sociedades, sin embargo, a raíz de estos estudios surgieron más publicaciones donde se cuestionaba el beneficio de este CEG alegando un número no despreciable de hipoglucemias e incluso en algunas publicaciones se reportaba un aumento de la mortalidad.
