Eficacia y costo-beneficio del uso de acupuntura como profilaxis para náusea y vómito postoperatorios

RESUMEN
Las náuseas y vómitos postoperatorios (NVPO) son una complicación común y poco deseada por los anestesiólogos por los múltiples efectos adversos sobre la salud y el bienestar de los pacientes. A pesar que contamos hoy en día con un vasto armamento farmacológico, la incidencia de esta complicación sigue siendo elevada.
Metodología: Se dividió una población de 300 pacientes de alto riesgo para presentar NVPO, en tres grupos: un grupo se le administró 4 mg de dexametasona durante la inducción anestésica, a otro grupo se le estimuló 30 minutos con agujas de acupuntura en el punto de «Nei Guan» y al tercer grupo se le administró 4 mg de dexametasona durante la inducción anestésica y se le estimuló 30 minutos con agujas de acupuntura en el punto de «Nei Guan».
Conclusiones: Encontramos una disminución en el porcentaje de aparición de NVPO en el grupo al cual se le administró la dexametasona y la acupuntura
versus el grupo que sólo se le administró dexametasona (7%
vs 25%) con significancia estadística, demostrándose que la combinación de dexametasona con el uso de acupuntura es una combinación costo-efectiva.
