Ocho años de experiencia con Sildenafil. Una revisión sobre eficacia y seguridad

RESUMEN

Desde su lanzamiento al mercado, hace poco más de ocho años, Sildenafil se ha establecido como el tratamiento farmacológico de primera línea para la disfunción eréctil (DE). Ha sido prescrito a más e 23 millones de hombres en todo el mundo y evaluado en múltiples estudios clínicos en diversas poblaciones de pacientes. La experiencia clínica ha confirmado que la respuesta exitosa en la función eréctil persiste a lo largo del tiempo sin evidencia de taquifilaxis. Los datos obtenidos en las investigaciones realizadas durante los años de 1998 a 2002, así como en la práctica clínica diaria, reflejan su eficacia en DE de diversa etiología y severidad. Una investigación exhaustiva sin precedentes se ha efectuado en el área cardiovascular, concluyendo que sildenafil no sólo es seguro, sino que puede incluso tener un efecto “cardioprotector” durante la actividad sexual. Se ha definido al sildenafil como un condicionador periférico y un medicamento de primera línea para la DE de diversa etiología cuyo tratamiento incluye agentes orales, educación sexual y orientación en la esfera psicosexual. Ningún otro tratamiento para la DE se ha estudiado de manera más extensa ni ha demostrado mayor eficacia y seguridad que sildenafil.
