FRAGMENTO
La medicina mexicana tiene una gran deuda con un grupo de pacientes que han sido y, por desgracia, en muchos casos siguen siendo invisibles para el gremio médico. Podemos mencionar la más frecuente y mortal Distrofia Muscular Duchenne (DMD). Desde que su autor, Guillaume Benjamin Armand Duchenne, describió en 1860 la enfermedad, si bien es cierto que ha habido avances importantes relacionados con el conocimiento de su etiología y su fisiopatología, no ha sido así con su tratamiento, menos aún con su prevención, y por lo que se refiere al tratamiento de sus complicaciones, el desinterés ha sido patente.
El consenso para elaborar la Guía para el Diagnóstico y Tratamiento de las Alteraciones Respiratorias en las Enfermedades Neuromusculares se llevó a cabo precisamente debido a la evidente falta de conocimiento sobre las complicaciones respiratorias de estas enfermedades y su tratamiento, lo mismo que a la consecuente falta de registros y estadísticas, todo lo cual ha generado que en los centros especializados se vea con indiferencia a este tipo de pacientes y se les cierren las puertas de la atención médica.
