El papel del factor inducible por hipoxia 1 (HIF-1) en la fibrosis pulmonar idiopática

RESUMEN
En años recientes se ha descrito de manera minuciosa, la relevancia del papel de la proteína HIF-1 alfa en diversos procesos patológicos y biológicos como son la carcinogénesis y la embriogénesis. Nuestro grupo de trabajo está interesado en esta proteína y su relación con el desarrollo de la fibrosis pulmonar idiopática (FPI), debido a que se ha observado que juega un importante papel en la génesis de la fibrosis renal, en donde se ha reportado que regula la transición epitelio-mesénquima, evento que se ha asociado con el desarrollo de la FPI. Por otro lado, los análisis de expresión génica en la FPI indican que los genes regulados por la hipoxia se encuentran alterados, lo cual sugiere un papel primario de HIF-1 alfa en el desarrollo de la FPI, así como la posibilidad de que la inducción de la síntesis de esta proteína sea un evento temprano en su patogénesis. Debido a su función y a los estudios actuales de HIF-1 alfa en relación con su participación en la fibrosis renal, así como en distintos tipos de cáncer, se realiza esta revisión de HIF-1 alfa y su participación en la FPI.
