Como cirujanos nos ha tocado vivir en la era de la tecnología, sin duda el cambio más radical en nuestra técnica quirúrgica se produjo hace 20 años con el advenimiento de la técnica quirúrgica. Hoy la moda en los foros quirúrgicos es el debate sobre más y nueva tecnología (laparoscopia con un solo puerto, cirugía transendoscópica por orificios naturales. NOTES, robótica, enteroscopia, etc.). El cuestionamiento que debemos hacernos como profesionales de la medicina interesados en el bienestar del paciente y de la sociedad, es reconocer si hoy la práctica de esa nueva tecnología es eficiente, segura y costo efectiva para el paciente en el cual la practicó y si es así; cómo mejorar su práctica a través del tiempo.
