El cirujano debe responder esta pregunta cuando encuentre un cáncer papilar de tiroides en una paciente que había sido operada de hemitiroidectomía por una enfermedad benigna, ante una biopsia por aspiración con aguja fina (BAAF) y/o un estudio transoperatorio por congelación (ETO) con falso negativo, finalmente en aquellos pacientes operados sin un estudio preoperatorio adecuado.
