Obesidad y comorbilidades en niños y adolescentes asistidos en el Instituto Nacional de Pediatría

RESUMEN
La obesidad es una enfermedad inflamatoria, sistémica, crónica y recurrente, que causa diversas complicaciones. Las expresiones metabólicas más frecuentes son la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (DM2) y las dislipidemias. Entre las complicaciones no metabólicas se encuentran la hipertensión arterial sistémica (HTA), los síndromes de hipoventilación y de apnea obstructiva del sueño, la enfermedad hepática por infiltración grasa del hígado, colelitiasis, osteoartrosis, epifisiolistesis, seudotumor cerebri y trastornos psicológicos y sociales. Su frecuencia es variable; la mayoría de las veces existe evidencia clínica de ellas; sin embargo, si no se les investiga intencionadamente, suele omitirse su diagnóstico. La evaluación integral e intencionada del niño y el adolescente obesos, permite detectar en forma temprana cualquiera de las complicaciones mencionadas.
