RESUMEN
Se presenta una reseña histórica de James Parkinson, de la enfermedad de Parkinson y un análisis sucinto de los avances en genética y biología molecular de la misma. Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en los servidores de Google, Pubmed y Ovid utilizando las siguientes palabras: enfermedad de Parkinson, James Parkinson, historia de la enfermedad de Parkinson, genética y enfermedad de Parkinson, biología molecular en enfermedad de Parkinson, actualización en enfermedad de Parkinson. De más de 100,000 publicaciones obtenidas, sólo se eligieron las que históricamente compilaran la mayor parte de la información y los artículos médicos con nivel de evidencia I. De los metanálisis se eligieron 60 publicaciones para este trabajo.
