Descripción de la microbiota subgingival de sujetos mexicanos con periodontitis crónica

RESUMEN
Introducción: Las enfermedades periodontales son infecciones causadas por microorganismos que colonizan la cavidad oral en una estructura compleja llamada biopelícula.
Objetivo: Describir la microbiota subgingival de pacientes mexicanos con periodontitis crónica.
Metodología: A 56 pacientes (33 con periodontitis crónica y 23 periodontalmente sanos) les fueron tomadas muestras de placa dentobacteriana subgingival. Las muestras fueron evaluadas microbiológicamente utilizando la técnica “chekerboard” para hibridaciones DNA-DNA.
Resultados: Todas las especies evaluadas fueron detectadas tanto en sujetos periodontalmente sanos como con periodontitis crónica. El análisis de las muestras de los sujetos de estudio mostró que P. gingivalis (p < 0.001), T. forsythensis (p › 0.01), T. denticola y A. actinomycetemcomitans (p › 0.05) presentaron cuentas promedio significativamente mayores en la población de sujetos con periodontitis crónica. Los pacientes con periodontitis, mostraron además proporciones más elevadas de especies del complejo “rojo” y menores proporciones de especies de Actinomyces y de especies del complejo “amarillo” cuando fueron comparados con pacientes periodontalmente sanos.
Conclusiones: Debido a la complejidad de la microbiota subgingival en sujetos mexicanos y a las diferencias con reportes provenientes de otras poblaciones, es necesario profundizar en el conocimiento y entendimiento del papel de las bacterias que intervienen en el proceso de la enfermedad periodontal en nuestro país. De esta manera, podremos ofrecer a los pacientes mexicanos, tratamientos basados en el conocimiento de las características microbiológicas propias de nuestra población.
