Esguince cervical. Propuesta de tratamiento

RESUMEN
El esguince cervical, es una patología frecuente que provoca elevadas pérdidas económicas anualmente en las grandes ciudades. El mecanismo de lesión más frecuentemente descrito, es el accidente automovilístico por colisión en la parte trasera, aunque puede ser causado por otros tipos de mecanismos. La patofisiología es pobremente entendida, por lo tanto el tratamiento es controversial y pobremente descrito en la literatura. Múltiples signos y síntomas se presentan, de los cuales, algunos son datos de mal pronóstico y desafortunadamente son poco mencionados. En el diagnóstico, los rayos X tienen una baja sensibilidad comparada con la detección de cambios por imagen de la resonancia magnética (IRM). El estudio de electroneurofisiología es un estudio que debe considerarse de rutina y en el caso de resultar con alteraciones reforzar con la IRM. Desafortunadamente, los tratamientos de rehabilitación no han sido científicamente evaluados por lo que hay poco soporte y evidencia de los beneficios y efectividad obtenidos de dichos tratamientos y por lo tanto no se puede establecer una conclusión. Siendo importante mencionar que el tratamiento puede llegar a ser quirúrgico.
