Operación de Burch: experiencia a 45 años de historia

RESUMEN
Han pasado 45 años desde que John C. Burch describió por primera vez su técnica de colposuspensión al ligamento de Cooper para el manejo quirúrgico de la incontinencia urinaria de esfuerzo. Casi medio siglo después el legado aún vive. Su técnica, con las modificaciones posteriores, ocupa un lugar privilegiado entre las opciones quirúrgicas para el tratamiento de la incontinencia urinaria de esfuerzo, tanto que en la actualidad se considera el patrón de referencia con el que todas las nuevas técnicas quirúrgicas deben compararse para medir su efectividad. Los recientes progresos en el conocimiento y la estandarización de la urodinámica femenina han permitido evaluar de manera más precisa los casos susceptibles de ser operados. Es así como se han optimizado los resultados, pues las complicaciones, relativamente raras, no son graves. Con tasas de éxito de casi 90% en seguimientos de 5 a 10 años, y del 69% en seguimientos de 10 a 20 años, la uretropexia de Burch aún aportará mucho al tratamiento de la incontinencia urinaria femenina. La presente es una revisión temática en la que se incluyeron 33 artículos relacionados con el tema, obtenidos de la base de datos Ovid.
