La revolución didáctica en psiquiatría: retos y posibilidades en América Latina

RESUMEN
Como muchos otros aspectos de la realidad contemporánea en el continente latinoamericano, la educación psiquiátrica afronta circunstancias críticas. No se trata únicamente de la escasez de profesionales o especialistas ni de su desigual distribución en zonas metropolitanas vs. áreas rurales o apartadas; no me refiero tampoco a plantas físicas deficientes o a la falta de recursos didácticos o equipo tecnológico adecuado. La crisis obedece a factores mucho más profundos y complejos en contextos mucho más amplios y elaborados. Tiene que ver con la realidad de presiones demográficas, sociales, políticas y económicas, las necesidades (y las expectativas) concretas de más de 500 millones de personas, más de las tres cuartas partes de las cuales están sumidas en hórridos enclaves de pobreza, ignorancia, alienación, violencia e incomunicación. Y la situación se hace más dramática aun porque ocurre en un momento histórico en el que, en el llamado mundo “desarrollado” tiene lugar una auténtica revolución didáctica en aspectos humanos, curriculares y técnicos (Rubin y Zorumski, 2003).
