La obesidad, condición en que la mayor cantidad de tejido graso representa un riesgo para la salud, constituye la alteración nutricia con mayor prevalencia en los niños de todo el mundo. Porque afecta prácticamente a todos los países y a todas las edades, ha sido calificada por los organismos internacionales como pandemia, siendo los países de las Américas los que presentan las más altas prevalencias.
